Health Risk Assessment Drives Patient Engagement and Service Line Growth for VHC Bariatric Program

VHC Health Increased Patient Visits and Delivered Clear Marketing Program ROI

VHC Health is a community-based hospital providing medical services to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for more than 75 years. Their bariatric surgery center is an independently recognized Center of Excellence.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

289

New patient contacts created

269

Contacts eligible for surgery

81

New patient visits

29

Surgeries attributed to the campaign

The Challenge

VHC was looking to increase patient visits and service-line revenue for their bariatric program, as one part of their wider hospital accountability goals.

Their past marketing campaigns brought traffic to their informational landing page and BMI calculator, but they weren’t collecting the contact information needed for their bariatric coordinator to follow up with individualized outreach.

And though they could track the traffic their marketing efforts brought to those pages, they weren’t able to get a full view of how marketing efforts motivated patients to schedule a consultation.

The Solution

VHC partnered with Wellsource to launch a Wellactivate™ bariatric health assessment. The health risk assessment (HRA) would enhance their planned bariatric campaign with an engaging patient experience that also captured qualified leads for the program coordinator. Patient experience was a top concern for VHC as they chose a health assessment vendor. After careful consideration, VHC saw that the Wellactivate assessment was the right fit for the hospital’s needs, with:

  • Evidence-based and scientifically valid risk models
  • Marketing support and guidance
  • Customization and patient personalization opportunities

The Results

The 3-month campaign generated:

  • 289 new patient contacts created
  • 269 new patient contacts scored as eligible for surgery
  • 81 new patient visits, scheduled directly from the HRA

…and 29 bariatric surgeries were directly attributed to the HRA. Two of the earliest HRA completions at the beginning of the campaign resulted in surgeries within just a three-month period, especially notable given the long lead times for bariatric procedures.

This campaign was so successful that that HRA program was also expanded to promote primary care physician visits and cardiology check-ups.

This is the first time we’ve ever had a good closure of the loop, connecting marketing leads to the appointments the physician group schedules to the surgeries booked.
